Recap: ICEMEN GO BP ON CRABS

Not since the Gulf Oil Spill has a crab population received such a devastating beat down as that one handed out by the Icemen last night. The 7-3 score might not seem too bad until you factor in that the two most backbreaking goals included BOTH a tape-to-tape headman pass from Smitty AND a legitimate deke and score by Tony Majeran. In other words, a crushing defeat.

The Crabs showed some early life with the assistance of Icemen center Patrick Mullen who beat Dr. Bob five hole to open the scoring. "I wasn't so much pissed at myself for the gaffe as I was jealous that those guys get to shoot at Dr. Bob all season", said Mullen. But the Icemen came right back and evened things up on Rich Meyer's first Icemen goal after line "2" (Rich-Tim-Sal) relentlessly attacked the Crabs in their own zone.

Trailing 2-1, the opportunistic Brad Cover scooped up a loose puck on the far post and deposited it into the empty net to even things up again. The Icemen would then take control of the game on goals by defenseman Jay Burke and winger Paul Sampson. "I appreciate the credit for a tape-to-tape headman pass springing Sampson but with my cataracts I can barely see the the friggin' blade on my stick", said Smitty. Despite his curmudgeonliness, Smitty made more than a few nice plays clearing the zone, passing the puck, and even keeping his stick on the ice and receiving a pass..."The old man played a good game", added Brian McElwain.

After a PPG that brought the Crabs to within 4-3, Tony Majeran made his annual appearance, and looking like a regular on the ice, took a pass from Pat Morin and put a nice move on the Crabs netminder before beating him five hole to cement the victory. Crupi and Cover would each add a goal for a comfortable cushion but the contributions by Smitty and Majeran really allowed the Icemen to coast to victory.

Next up for the Icemen is the expansion Black Aces, which should be interesting now that rumors have surfaced of a bounty of the head of McLovin (#41).

Oh, and there's a New Tim's Bits too.
