Recap: ICEMEN DECLAW CRABS 5-2 The Icemen controlled the puck the majority of the game in earning a 5-2 victory over the Crabs. With 2 goals, winger Paul Sampson retains the top spot in both goals and points on the team. He also now has more goals than passes on the season. Mostly due to a solid performance by Fred Leary between the Crabs' pipes, the Icemen were unable to capitalize on numerous scoring chances and allowed the Crabs to hang in the game far too long. The unexpected absence of defender/center Jay Burke also contributed to the less than stellar performance. "My apologies to the team", said a remorseful Burke. "Since picking up some tips from Sampson on how to meet chicks my social life has been crazy. It's just like he said, a pair of cut-off jeans and a skin-tight Twisted Sister t-shirt and you won't be able to keep the broads off you." Winger Rich Meyers recorded his first Icemen goal in his 4th game...186 games faster than Jeff Smith. Brad Cover also continued his to torrid scoring streak with another goal and an assist for 8 points (5G,3A) in just 4 games. Sal Crupi had the eventual game-winner in the second period but still leads the team in shots wide, with Brian McElwain a close second. McElwain did have 2 points (1G,1A) in the game to inch his way up the stats page and stave off his impending demotion to the APG for at least another week. And because he is very sensitive about being overlooked in the recaps, the Icemen official poet laureate Tim Polanowski had 2 assists as did Pat Morin. Both are still tied for the team lead in that category with 7.
