Recap: SMITTY POWERS ICEMEN PAST BOMBERS Before the game things looked bleak for the Icemen offense as it appeared Jay was a no-show. Pat announced to the team “Jay is to be late. I will play Center on first line with Bobby, Yes?” But it wasn't the French Connection Line that sparked the Icemen Offense, it was Jeff “The Rocket Launcher” Smith scoring his 3rd career goal on a strong wrister that stretched the net to within inches of it's failure point. “I really enjoy these afternoon games while my Geritol is still pumping through my veins”, said Smitty. “And I can still catch the Early Bird dinner at Baugher's”. Bobby Guindon would add his first Icemen goal moments later corralling a terrible pass from Crupi. “This is great honor for me” said Guindon. “I will put puck on shelf right behind puck from first goal with Rebels to cherish always this moment.” Hayes would score his first of two goals to give the Icemen a 3-1 lead heading into the first intermission. Jay finally showed up in the second period claiming that his car wouldn't start as there was a croissant in his tailpipe. On the bench, Guindon said to Pat “Peut-être après temps nous employons une baguette?”, which they said translates to “How unfortunate. Glad he could make it”, only reenforcing how lucky the Icemen are to have two great French Canadian guys on their roster. A flurry of second period goals by Cover, Hayes, Crupi, Polanowski, and Bright would push the score to 8-1 after two periods. With a running clock, the third period went by quickly without any scoring. Although there was one exciting moment for the Icemen netminder. “At about the 9:00 minute mark, a shot came through that I was able to glove despite my excitement”, said Casero. “It felt almost as exhilirating as when I saw that double rainbow.” After the game, Jay said, “Jay thinks Jay had a good game despite being late and not scoring any goals. Jay was happy with Jay's overall performance.”
