Recap: In possibly the worst period of hockey by someone not named Smitty, "Defenseman" Sal Crupi managed to kick a puck in his own net, screen his goalie on another goal, and be out of position for two other goals to completely turnaround a game that the Icemen actually led 1-0 against the Upper-C Dragons after the first period. Winger Bobby Guindon netted two goals to keep the score respectable but it wasn't enough to overcome Crupi's ineptitude.

But Crupi wasn't the only Icemen responsible for the loss, Tim Polanowski was guilty of shooting the puck too hard from close range to have a goal be witnessed and counted in the second period. Goaltender Bob Casero also contributed by allowing a goal on a third shot after stoning a breakaway and the shot from the trailer. "He's got to be mindful of that third shooter when sprawling out like that," added the always critical Paul Sampson.

Both Icemen losses this season have come against the top two teams in the Upper-C division and both have been much closer games than the final score would indicate. "We can't afford to make mistakes or give these upper division teams too many gifts if we expect to win", said the usually quiet Rich Meyers. "We've played them both tight and hung with them, but both times we had a couple of brief lapses that they have taken advantage of."

Next up is the Black Aces...Hopefully the refs will allow us to continue the shootout stopped short in our last matchup prior to starting the scheduled game, per the Hockey Director's suggestion. No doubt both teams could use that valuable extra point come the end of the season.
