Recap: ICEMEN HOLD OFF ACES AND REFS

The Icemen beat a much improved Black Aces squad Wednesday night 3-2 despite racking up 11 penalties to spend nearly half the game short handed. Bobby "Ding Dong" Guindon led the Icemen with 3-points (1G,2A) and Bob "Just Don't Expect Me To Stop a Breakaway" Casero made several big saves to earn the victory.

Jay Burke stuffed home a rebound and Pat Morin fired in a loose puck, both off of Guindon shots, to give the Icemen an early 2-0 lead. "Those goals should have been disallowed since I'm clearly the best goaltender in the league", said the Aces netminder.

Things were looking good for the Icemen until a profanity-laden exchange of words turned a jovial Santa-like ref into a whistle-happy douche bag. The Icemen then spent the majority of the rest of the game shorthanded including two 5-on-3 kills. "We were able to kill every PP with solid defense and goaltending", said Pat Morin. "All their shots on the PP came from the outside and a lot of them never got through to the net. Bob also played very well in net tonight and stopped everything he had to." Both Black Aces goals came off of breakaways by the speedy #52.

Guindon's second period goal was a thing of beauty. After catching a knee high pass just outside the crease, the talented winger lifted the puck on the backhand over the outstretched pad of the league's best goaltender and into the top shelf.

After the win, the teams resumed a suspended shootout from their July 1st match-up in which the Black Aces scored on all three shots to earn the extra point and turn the Icemen's tie into an OTL.
