Recap: ICEMEN FALL TO LOYOLA BOMBERS, 5-3

Despite the coaching and Loyola reinformements, the Icemen managed to hold off the 19 & 25 line until the final 3 minutes of the game before watching a hard-fought tie slip away.

After dominating the Bombers in their first three matchups, the Icemen jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on Brad Cover's 4th of the season. But after a quick 19-from25, 25-from-19, the Bombers had their first lead of the season series. Midway through the second, Steve Billmeier would even the game at 2-2 after burying a loose puck sitting in the crease. And following another 19-from-25, Brian McElwain would blast a slap shot past a surprised Bomber goalie to send the game into the final period knotted at 3-3.

"I think we were more surprised than the Bomber's goalie to see Brian get off a slap shot from the top of the circle", said Paul Sampson, who assisted on the goal. "Actually, we were missing the net all night and when we did straighten out our shots the Bomber's goalie was solid."

"Obviously, we need to step up our game the next time we play them", added Bill Polinsky, who spent the better part of the third period in the penalty box instead of helping the Icemen offense get in sync. "We played a very sloppy and lazy game against a team that you can no longer take for granted. It was much more fun than a lopsided win, but we need to play much smarter if we hope to win another game this year."

In other news, Ed Slusher has promised to get the Icemen some help from his Towson squad to make sure every team has at least SOME talent on their roster. "Yeah, I want to make sure the division remains competitive", said Slusher. "It's not like it's the Lower C-division or something".
